New from Digital Delights - Pyramage

Here is another Christmas card using the new Pyramage technique over at Digital Delights. It is a really cool technique to stack up layers of the same image.  It is a little different than paper tole that only takes selected sections of an image and repeats them.

I started by downloading and printing the pdf file onto glossy cardstock. Most scrapbook stores have this glossy cardstock as 8 1/2 x 11.  The image is pre-colored so no Copics here.

Then I cut out all the pieces using my best scissors.  I found that the Spellbinders classic square scalloped die worked for a background paper for the main image.  The Spellbinders classic circle work to cut out the sentiment and the scalloped die worked for the background paper.

I loaded all this onto a piece of A4 cardstock and a layer of Recollections Glitter paper for an extra sparkle.  I also added a bit of Flowersoft for a snowy effect and Stickles to make the stars sparkle.  Here is the finished card.....

Card Recipe:

CS and Papers: Card stock, Recollections Glitter Paper, Flowersoft, Stickles
Access. and Embellishments: Spellbinders Scalloped Square and Scalloped Circle,
Special Techniques: Pyramage

Christmas challenges abound these days so I will have no trouble entering the card into a number of challenges:

Thanks for stopping by!

Sunday's with Crissy is having a DT Call

It is time to get on board with this wonderful opportunity to work with Crissy's design team.  All you have to do is two simple things:

  • make a card and post it to your blog, and
  • post the design team call button.
Well, I am looking for a second design team to work with and Sunday's with Crissy seems just right for me.  I have loved her images since I first saw them in the Whimsy Stamps store.  I even made and posted a card with her very cute Whatzup Dog back in April. I just couldn't resist his little face.  This card actually won a challenge that earned me a few lovely things (paper, markers and flowers) from Little Claire's Designs.

Well here is my final card for the DT Call.....

Butterflies are all the rage at the moment and I managed to snag this lovely image Daisy Butterfly from Whimsy today. That, I must say, is the single most valuable asset for me working with digital images.  As soon as I find the one I want I can start working with it - no waiting for the mail and no trip through traffic to the store.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Crissy's Daisy Butterfly from Whimsy Designs
Paper: This wonderful daisy paper came from a scrapbook store in Parksville with no name or markings, Bazzill, white cardstock
Markers: Copics - YG63, 67, C3, 5, Y02, 06, V01, 02, RV21
Embellishments: Floral Studios Canteberry Collection flower, SU Pearls and butterfly die, Distress Tea Dye, lace from the fabric store, pearl accent from Michael's (had this for years!), Ribbon, Bosskut Flower Silhouette

This card will be entered in the following challenges:
I hope your having a great day!

Dog Days of Summer Challenge at Digital Delights

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges for
"The Dog Days of Summer".

When I think of any kind of summer vacation I think of getting more time to read.  When my husband and I go away, I usually take two or three books with me, and while we are lounging on the beach, I am reading.

So this week I made a bookmark with Scrubbie Ted to help mark my place in a book. Since it is so colorful it should spark conversation about card making with my lounge chair neighbor.

Card Recipe:

DD Stamps: Scrubbie Ted and Just Chillin Sentiment Set
CS and Papers: SU Melon Mambo, Basic Grey Out of Print Lithograph
Markers: Copics - E23, E33, #57, R20, G14, Y06, R35, Distress Tea Dye

Mojo Monday with a Lemony Tilda

Today I am following the Mojo Monday challenge with a lovely lemony yellow colored Tilda.  I had a little trouble with this card as I wanted to use the lemon paper along with the watermelon paper.  I also thought the clear division in the watermelon paper would work for the challenge because it shows two base papers one at the top and one at the bottom.  Check out the Mojo Monday Challenge!

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Princess Tilda, SU Birthday Wishes from Bring on the Cake
Paper: Sweet Summertime When Life Gives You Lemons and Watermelon Hopscotch, Bazzill, Little Boys
Markers: Copics - Y02, Y04, Y06
Embellishments: Michael's brad, Prima flower, buttons, tag, BoBunny Ribbon, Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle and Label Four

Super Edwin!

I finally received my last shipment of Magnolia Club stamps and what a surprise to see Edwin in a cape.  It's actually really cute! I needed another boy's birthday card and I have this great paper from Echo Park with cars on the road.  The two go nicely together.

I am never sure whether to add ribbons and flowers to boy's cards so I stopped at ribbon this time.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Super Edwin
Paper: Not Quit Navy, Echo Park Little Boy
Markers: Copics - R22, R24, R27, B21, B23, B26
Embellishments: Happy Birthday ribbon from Offray, Prima Pearls, Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle

Watermelon and Summer Birthdays

The Outlawz girls have a new Clean and Simple challenge for us this week - Orange and Yellow.  I don't do CAS very well.  Since I started working with Magnolia images I have tended to look for more layers and flowers to add before my creative sense thinks the card is complete.

I purchase some new papers over the weekend and one of them suits this challenge very well.  It is from The C-Thru Ruler Company - Sweet Summer Time Watermelon Hopscotch.  The lower half of the paper is loaded with what looks like watermelon slices and flowers, perfectly painted with orange, yellow, green and red.  I thought this section of the paper would make a nice backdrop for my CAS card.

Two members of my family have birthdays in August and I think this will do well for one of them.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: JustRite Stampers
CS and Papers: So Saffron, The C-Thru Ruler Company Sweet Summer Time Watermelon Hopscotch, Orange CS
Ink: Momento Black
Access. And Embellishments: BoBunny Ribbon, Spellbinders Fancy Circles
Special Techniques: CAS

Circus Night Light

My newest grandson is moving into his new room with a circus theme and how wonderful that Digital Delights by Louby Lou has come out with a new series of images with a circus theme.  I used quite a few of the new images which are listed below in the project recipe with direct links to the store.

Circus Tickets Sentiment Set, Buttons the Clown and Cannonball Buttons

Popcorn the Monkey and Roley the Ringmaster

Buttons the Clown Notice Board

Hand Stand Coco the Clown and Circus Stand

I used all the new Circus digi papers as well.  I cut strips and then used my Fiskars Paper Edgers to make different edges. For the window panes I used two different MS edge punches.

Project Cutting Instructions:
  • Cut two panels with your main card stock 7 1/2 by 10 1/2.  Score at 5" and 10".  This gives you a 1/2" flap for gluing to the other panel.  Turn the paper lengthwise and score at 1/2" for the flap that folds under and glues to the base.  Cut out any shape and size window you want. Add your images and have fun here!
  • Cut one base of very heavy card stock (I used the backing to a paper pad) 5" by 5".  You will glue the completed panels to this base.  Glue your chosen stand items to the bottom of the base. I used wood beads.
  • For the lid I made a template of a triangle with a 5 1/2" bottom and a 3 1/2" rise. Cut 2 of these and wait to glue them together when you have finished embellished them.  The template should look like this:

Project Recipe:
Markers: Copics – YR00, YR01, YR02, YR04, YR07, YR14, E31, E37, E35, C1, C2, C3, R20, R27, R29, B26, Y08, G24, G14, G28
Access. and Embellishments: Flameless Tea Lights, Walmart sparkle pom-pom
Special Techniques: Child’s Night Light

Hope you enjoyed this project.  Have a go at it for yourself and let me know how it turns out.

Steal a Kiss

I made this card for Sunday's with Crissy's challenge and DT opportunity.  Crissy has some amazing digi images - you should check them out.

This card is made with Crissy's Young Love set.  This little fellow thinks he is going to win himself a kiss.  Although the little gal looks shy, I think she is inclined to let him have his kiss.

I wanted to create the illusion that this pair were sitting in the living room. I started the card with Very Vanilla and embossed the bottom half with a Sizzix folder. On the top half I used Vers-Marc to stamp a flourish and then added Perfect Pearls to make it shiny.  The lace, ribbon and pin are from my scrapbook store and are added just because I liked them.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Crissy's Young Love set purchased from MelJens Designs, Timeless Tuesday flourish
Paper: SU Very Vanilla
Markers: Copics, Distress Tea Dye
Embellishments: Lace, ribbon, pin, spellbinders die, Prima flower, Prima pearls, Perfect Pearls

I have been having such a fun time with the Digital Delights Challenge team that I thought I would apply to Sunday's with Crissy as well.

Card for Burn Victim Ethyl

My friend Sheree from Vancouver Island Craft Junkie told us all about a customer from her shop up in Campbell River who burned her face and was undergoing a number of grafting surgeries.  Ethyl is in a lot of pain and could use some encouragement.

Sheree has challenged us all to make a card for Ethyl and send it to Sheree’s shop.  Just email Sheree or leave a comment on her post and she will send you the information.  Sheree will collect all the cards and get them to Ethyl next week.

My card is made with one of my favorite papers from the Prima Fairy Flora collection.  I wanted the beauty of the paper to show through so I tried not to cover it up too much.  The sentiment and butterfly flourish is from Our Daily Bread Designs Get Well set.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: ODBD Get Well
CS and Papers: Prima Fairy Flora, Wild Wasbe
Ink: Momento Bamboo Leaves
Embellishments: MS butterfly punch and SU butterfly die, SU Pearls,
ZVA Creative pearls, Spellbinders Fancy Tags die

In honor of Ethyl, I will enter this card into the following challenges:

Hop over to Vancouver Island Craft Junkie to read Ethyl’s story and please consider making an encouraging card for her.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Down on the Farm with Digital Delights

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges
for Down on the Farm!

My card this week features Farmer Giles and Sally the Sheep in a Stair Step card. I also used the Down on the Farm Accessories set, Down on the Farm digi paper, and the Sentiment Set.

This is a great new series with a variety of farm animals, Polly and Petey, Farmer Giles, an accessories set, a great sentiment pack, and some really wonderful digi paper. I especially like the gingham papers.

This first picture is the front of the card as it is folded and ready for the envelope.

I used the apple digi paper to paper piece the tree foliage.  The tree trunk, barn and fence are all colored with Copics. Isn't the greetings sentiment perfect for this set?

When the card is opened and on display you can see the farmyard scene in layers.  The hay stack has been colored with Copics and then layered with Flowersoft.  Farmer Giles is colored with Copics and cut out to enhance the 3D effect.  I made two Sally the Sheep characters also colored with Copics.

One of my favorite memories growing up was crawling through the tall grass in my grandfather's apple orchard. So of course, I had to add layers of grass with the aid of an old Marvy punch.

Flip up the lid (so to speak) and you can see the inside of the card where I will be able to write out a note to the lucky recipient.

Here is a close-up of the paper pieced tree.

Card Recipe:
CS and Papers: Wild Wasbe, Down on the Farm digi paper
Markers: Copics – B00, B24, 100, E35, E57, R20, G14, R29, C1, C3
Access. and Embellishments: Flowersoft, Ribbon, Michael’s flower brads, Hex brads, Retro Flower punch, Marvy Grass punch, Spellbinder/JustRite die
Coloring Medium: Distress ink sponged on paper edges
Special Techniques: Stair Step Card
