Super Spidy Kid

I made this cute card for my son's birthday this fall.  I used one of the new releases from Digital Delights and it is just perfect to celebrate his birthday because Spider man is a special icon in my family.

My eldest son wanted a Spider man costume one Halloween and we set out to make him something special.  It took hours and hours of labor to hand sew the rib piping on the main body. I think it turned out pretty good.

Card Recipe
Paper: Whisper White, Bazzill Red, All Hallow's Eve from Carta Bella
Markers/Ink: Copics, Distress Fired Brick
Embellishments: Spellbinders; Scalloped Rectangle, Spider Web Accessories, Label 18, BoBunny gems, Sizzix label punch

Seahorse Under the Sea - Encaustic Technique

I have another encaustic technique card today for the Under the Sea theme over at Craft a Scene.

According to encaustic.ca ....

The term Encaustic is derived from the Greek word enkaien and means to burn into.
This procedure of applying molten, coloured wax to various surfaces was already used by the old Egyptians more than 3000 years ago – the resulting paintings of the mummy portraits are there for us to admire in the British Museum in London or in the National Museum in Cairo.

The image is stamped on glossy paper. I melted wax onto the hot iron and then smoothed the iron over the paper.  With a second color and a "flick of the wrist" I was able to make the floating kelp.

Be Strong in the Lord!

Our theme this month over at Craft a Scene is "Under the Sea"! I actually made a card with crayon wax and an iron.  I learned the encaustic technique at the Savanna Retreat last year from Barb.  She actually helped me create this one.

The image is stamped on glossy paper.  I melted wax onto the hot iron and then with the "flick of the wrist" gently applied a swoth of color.  How you hold the iron and the flicking motion can make a difference in the final look.
