Lonely Pups and People

I made this card for my daughter to send to one of her friends who is working out of town for a while. She is lonely without him and they seem to spend a lot of time on the phone!

The sad looking little puppy is from Digital Delights new Lonely Pups Set and the sentiment from the Missing You Sentiment Set. The frame he is laying in is brand new today - Modern Frames. I also tried to follow the Mojo Monday sketch challenge.

Craft a Scene Challenge #3 - Moonlight

Hello everyone! I have been creating a little today and one of the cards I finally finished is my DT card for the new challenge over at Craft a Scene. The theme this month is Moonlight. We need to make a card that shines a little moonlight on our surroundings.

My card features a new stamp I purchased from Sutter Stamps and leftover pieces of my My Minds Eye Stella Rose paper pack.

I tried one of Sandy's techniques of masking the moon space and then applying color. I cut the moon shape from my Spellbinders small circle. I used Adirondack Lettuce and Meadow to color the greenery. I wasn't quite happy with the effect so I added a little Copic G17 to the stalks and the lily pads. The blues are Cloudy Blue, Denim and Stream. A white gel pen added the water highlights.

Dillon the Lion makes a really cute card when you combine him with the BoBunny Zoological paper collection.

I've got another card for my box going to Send A Smile For Kids. They need all kinds of cards, birthday, thank you, and any holiday for the kids to give to others and for the staff to give to the kids and families.

Dillon is colored with only two Copic markers and then liberally sprinkled with FlowerSpoft Citrus Crush.

Key to My Heart - Digital Delights

My card for Digital Delights this week features another one of the new images available for Valentines. The beauty of this great image, Key to My Heart, is that it can be used anytime.

I made a little box using Spellbinders box die to hold Hershey Kisses for my sweetie. I used a hole punch to open up the lace design in the heart.

I used EK Success Retro Flower punch to create a little flower out of the Love page from the Valentine Digital Paper Pack.

Oh! I Am Missing You!

Over at Digital Delights Wendy has some new really cute images to share with us. For my card I used the pre-colored blank window from the new Missing You Window Set and the uncolored bear window.

I colored two copies of the bear with Copic markers and then cut them out for popping them up in the window to provide a little dimension. The bottom layer is the full bear and the top layer is just the face. I scored the window sides and bent them up a little.

I Love You Beary Much!

My card for Digital Delights this week features another one of those new, super cute images just perfect for saying "I love you" at anytime, not just at Valentines.

I colored Luvvy with Copic markers and then layered him on a scrap piece of the Sweetheart Paper I had left over from last weeks card. I really like the Spellbinders Fluer de Lis die and thought it was perfect for this project. I add little Stampin Up pearls around the edge, colored with R83.

Nothing Sweeter Than Love

I made this card for the Frosted Designs sketch challenge and as part of the requirements for entering the DT Call. It is a great sketch and worked well for the image and sentiment I wanted to use.

I embossed the top part of the Whisper White base with my new Cuttlebug folder. I only did the top part because I wanted the bottom left open for the sentiment. I always seem to pop-up the sentiment on other card stock and I thought it would be good for me if I tried it directly to the base. I lightly sponged Distress Worn Lipstick over the raised portion of the embossing to add the color.

Mother and Child

Today we announced the winners of the first challenge over at Craft a Scene. With so many wonderful scenes to choose from, it was difficult to select just three. Hop over to Craft a Scene and have a look and don't forget to leave a little love for the winners.

My card today features more of the new stamps I purchased from Sutter and Repeat Impressions. I wanted to feature the Whitetail Doe and Fawn (4218W) somehow and I think the Spill (G-1708) and Grand Teton Reflections (H-1629) does the trick.

This project was an effort in masking to make all the images stay where they belonged. The bottom of the Grand Tetons fit perfectly as the top of the Spill. I added the Stampscapes Tree Trunk Trio (088F) to frame it all in. The Our Daily Bread Designs Scripture Collection 6 added just the sentiment I needed.

True Love Birds

This year (in September) will be my 35 wedding anniversary and this image makes me think of the love and connection that I have with my husband - truly love birds!

Wolves in the Country

I received two packages in the mail this week from my purchasing frenzy after Christmas. I found a few scenic stamping companies that I just had to try. Here is my first card with some of my new stamps.

I made this card with Wolf Outing H-1674 from Sutter Stamps and Mountains 28L from Beeswax. I really needed a set of mountains that we a little like the rolling hills in California where I am from. I couldn't resist this great wolf family. Kind of reminds me of a story my second son told after a recent hunting trip. I plan to send him this card for some encouragement.

General Instructions:

I started out stamping the wolves in the foreground with Momento Black and then made a mask with the same image.
I stamped the mountains with London Fog.
I stamped the Tree Duo and Fir Row with Distress Forest Moss.
I added the two larger trees on either side of the wolves. I wanted them to be behind the wolves a bit and the mask came in very handy here.
Then I added the grasses around the legs and base of the trees.
Coloring the image was a real challenge for me. I am still learning how to use the Stylus and getting ink where I want it is still to be learned! I added Meadow and Lettuce to the ground and a little to the mountains.
I added Ginger and Butterscotch to the mountain area because in California the hills are only green for a short time (if there is rain). I also added some Ginger at the base of the trees.
I used Aqua as a base on the sky and then added some highlights with Cloudy Blue.
The wolves were the toughest part. I started with Slate and then added Pebble for highlights. When I was done it looked all one color (mostly). After letting it dry for a while I used the gel pen to bring out some of the white areas on the faces.

So Long George

An elderly gentlemen in our church passed away on Saturday so I made a sympathy card for the family. George had been in our church for quite some time. He had such a great sense of humor and loved to fish. I made this card with Stampscapes images and tried Sheree's sky technique. I thought it would be a fitting card to remember the life of this wonderful Christian man.

The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread Designs Scripture Collection #4. I used two stamps from sheet #1 (river scene and side trees) which, by the way, were originally sold by A Stamp in the Hand (I have some of these in my stash of stamps). Kevin designed stamps for that company while he was in College before he started his Stampscapes company. I also used the standard mountain for most of us, Rocky Peaks 188F.

Quick and Easy Table Decorations

Just a quick post to show you an easy Valentines table decoration. I used the new Digital Delights toppers to make napkin holders.

All I had to do was add a tab on each side of the image before I printed it out. Then I cut these little cuties out and stapled the tab in the back.

Off course I couldn't resist adding a Wild Orchard flower and Stampin Up ribbon. Super easy, right? Now all I have to do is think up something great to serve my DH on that special day.

Is it Time for Spring Yet?

Our days in the North West have been drizzly and cold of late. Only in the last day or so have we seen a little bit of sun and of course, the threat of snow. I know much of the country is buried under the white stuff and I have nothing to complain about, but I thought I would offer this card of encouragement to all of us who wish Spring was a little closer.

Craft a Scene Challenge #1 - Anything Goes

This is my first post of the year and I am here with a card for the 1st Craft a Scene challenge.

My card is a country scene centered on a little country church. I used Adirondack inks to color most of the scene and then Copic R39 to add a little color to the church. I started out with the church all white (I have seen some like this), but it just looked so plain in the scene. Adding the red made it pop a little.

Happy New Year!

Hello followers and fellow bloggers! I trust everyone had a wonderful holiday and will have fun watching the ball drop at the stroke of midnight.

I am not one for New Year's resolutions but I decided a couple of days ago that I needed a few. So here goes:

Decorate the inside of my cards. I have seen a lot of designers doing this and suddenly wondered why I am not doing it. I have decorated the inside of a few of my cards but I want to do it most of the time this year.
Give away more cards. I have actually been hording them. I make and post cards every week and they keep piling up. I do send some out to family and friends for various reasons like birthdays and I give a few out to people at church but the supply is greater than the demand. So I am going to package up a big bunch and send them to the children's hospital. Send a Smile for Kids is a great organization and they take care of giving the cards to the various hospitals in different areas of the country.
Start a challenge blog. Why you ask? Well, because it will be fun and rewarding and expand my blog friends. Ok, so I already started this one a couple of days ago. The new challenge blog is Craft a Scene. The focus of these monthly challenges will be scenic projects - cards, tags, boxes, whatever, just as long as it is a finished project. The first challenge starts on Sunday, January 1, 2012!

Well, I think three resolutions is enough for me to get started. What are your New Year's resolutions? I would love for you to leave a comment with your list. In a couple of days, I will compile the whole list and post some stats about resolutions.

Here is my last card for 2011 and it is my first new card to give to Send a Smile for Kids.

Isn't Elle from Digital Delights cute? I couldn't resist coloring her with pink tones. The background paper from BoBunny has etchings of different safari animals which I thought worked will with the theme. I also embossed a piece of paper using a Cuttlebug folder and then sponged over the raised portions with Adirondak Slate.

New Challenge Blog and DT Call

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Today, much of the world celebrates Christmas. Some are celebrating by exchanging gifts brought by Santa Claus, while others are celebrating the birth of a Saviour.

My family celebrates by getting together, eating lots of good food, exchanging small gifts, and playing games. Most important, however, is our belief that we are celebrating the birth of our Saviour and coming King.

However you celebrate, my prayer for you is that you cherish your family, and think about what and why you are celebrating. Lives are changed just by knowing about this special little child.

Did You Pick Your Tree?

My card today is for my new position on the Digital Delights design team. For the last six months I have been working with the Challenge Team, making cards to inspire the folks entering our weekly challenges. Wendy asked me if I would like to continue into a second term, but on the regular design team that posts here on the DD blog.

For this card I tried something new for me. I have combined two images together before printing them out. It certainly cuts down on the cutting!!

I used Gimp (free download) to load and size the background image and then added the Jingles .png image. Using Gimp I was able to resize and move Jingles to just the right spot on the background. Next I had to add white to sections of Jingles to block out the background image. I saved the file and then transfered the saved image to MS Word for printing.

I also tried a new product (new to me that is), DecoArt Snow Writer. It is a gloppy, gritty, white paint that comes in a tube with a fine tip applicator. The substance looks like snow (a bit) and you can apply it with some precision. The paint also dries quickly. I applied a little at the snow line near the trees and under the Jingles and his sleigh.

Wintery Tilda Rings in Christmas

I have the honor of being the guest designer at It's a Magnolia Challenge this week. The challenge is white with gold or white with silver. I chose white and silver as you can see.

I also followed the sketch at Christmas Challenge (without the twist) as my guide for the layers on the card. For one of the panels I stamped with VersaMark the trees from Stampin Up's Patterned Pines, and snowflakes from the same set on another panel. I sprinkled them with white sparkle embossing powder and then applied the heat. The result is sparkly trees and snowflakes in the background. Distress Weathered Wood was used to sponge just enough color to bring out the images.

The Magnolia Sweet Christmas Dreams paper was edged in glue and then sprinkled liberally with silver glitter. I applied white glitter to the ground under Tilda and Icicles Stickles to her hat.

A Purple, Snowy Christmas

I really like working with the Mojo Monday sketches and for this card I wanted to work in a couple of special techniques.

The background paper is stamped with VersaMark ink and then heat embossed with sparkly white powder. The next step is to sponge a light blue ink over the paper leaving some white space. Fill in the white space by sponging on a darker blue ink. The final step is to use a purple ink. For some reason using the purple around the stamped flakes really makes them visually pop off the paper.

I wish you could see how sparkly the paper looks!

The second technique is with the embossing folder. I applied a small coating of the purple ink to the inside of the embossing folder and then set my white paper in place. After rolling it through the Cuttle Bug the paper comes out looking vintage with color splotched over the surface and in some of the crevices of the embossed image.

Santa Needs Little Helpers This Year

Sweet Magnolia Family Christmas

Trimming the tree in our house is definitely a family affair. We like to set out all the ornaments, dad or one of our sons will hang the lights and then everyone pitches in adding ornaments until the family is satisfied that the tree is full of all our decorating personality.

I created this Magnolia scene as kinda my homage to those bi-gone days. The kids are all older now, three of them are married and two have children of their own. I think I might need to change up the Christmas decorating and ask all the grand kids over for a decorating party and start a new tradition.

This cute little Tilda is like my daughter, Liz. she is colored with Copics V04, V06, B0000, E01, E02, E15, E19, E35, White gel pen, and yellow and pink Spica pens.

Edwin is like my youngest son, Phillip. Always helpful and tall enough to add the star at the top of the tree. Edwin is colored with Copics - E01, E02, G17, G14, B05, B06, C1, C3, C7, E15, E19, E35, White gel pen and several colors of Spic sparkly pens.

My card today features the new Snowie McFee from Digital Delights with his snowflake light. He is all decked out for Christmas visiting. One of my favorite things about Christmas is that we make more time for visiting family and friends.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Original Cooking Team

This week at Paper Cutz our challenge is "Gobble, Gobble"! We want to see your card, layout or craft project that incorporates a recipe of your favorite Thanksgiving dish.

My card this week uses two of the newer characters from Digital Delights Thanksgiving Pilgrims and Indians. I also followed the Mojo Monday sketch for this week.

My favorite Thanksgiving recipe is for bread stuffing to go into the turkey. This is my step dad's recipe and I think it came from his Irish mother.

Ken's Stuffing

Use 3 full loaves of three different kinds of bread (white, wheat and rye are nice)
Cut the bread into cubes and moisten with about 2 cups of water or chicken broth sprinkled over the cubes (in a very large bowl).
Add these dry ingredients to the bowl and mix

4-6 crisp pieces of bacon crumbled
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
2 tablespoons of cinnamon
2 teaspoons of nutmeg
1 teaspoon sage

In a large skillet (my dad used an iron skillet with bacon grease)

Add a tablespoon or two of your favorite cooking oil
Saute a large chopped onion
Add 1 cup of chopped celery

Now add the bread mixture to the skillet
In a small bowl combine 2 eggs and 2 cups of milk.
Pour the milk/egg mixture over the bread in the skillet and saute (keep folding over the layers) until the egg looks cooked - about 10 minutes.
Stuff both ends of the Turkey with the stuffing and cook as normal
Be sure to remove the stuffing from the bird as soon as it comes out of the oven.

Unto Us A Child Is Born!

For my card this week I used a brand new Christmas set from Digital Delights - Three Wise Men Set. My paper is very sparkly with lots of stars and I added a strip of stars to the top of my z-fold card.

Of course the Wise Men are on their way to see the Christ child.

The Christ child is from the A Child Is Born Nativity set.

I used Liquid Applique to puff up the edges of his coat and the beard below.

Tilda is a Lovely Christmas Angel

My card today features Tilda as a Christmas angel, and an angel she is in her lovely green gown. I sparkled her wings, halo and star wand with a sparkly gel pen. I am also using my new Joy Tree stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs. Back in September I won a gift certificate from Stamping Sisters in Christ to the ODBD store and this is one of the stamps I purchased.

I decided that it had been too long since I made an easel card and these images lent themselves nicely to this classic card shape.

You can't see it in this picture, but I added the sparkly gel pen to the large words for maximum emphasis.

Turning Over a New Leaf

The new Paper Cutz challenge this week is Turning Over a New Leaf. Make your card or project this week with lots of leaves.

I recently purchased a Tim Holtz leaf die with lots of different leaf types. It is the perfect die for making the leaves I needed for this challenge. I also have a great paper pack, Olivia, that I bought from Close to My Heart.

Card Recipe:

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges

for a color challenge!

This week at Digital Delights we have a color challenge. Your project must have Purple, orange, green and black and that's it!!

My project is a secret treasure trove hidden inside a normal looking box. I found this design at Creativityprompt.com.

I used the Pirate set from Digital Delights and an amazing Graphic 45 paper that has design on both sides which really helps this project.

Of course a box like this has four sides and a top. This provides plenty of space to put all the cute little images from the Pirate set.

I made a flower for the lid using EK Success Retro Flower punch and the leaves were cut using Spellbinders Leaves. I added a little sparkle to the petals with Stickles but you can't really tell by the picture.

Is it Time for Snow Yet?

Sure feels like snow around here. The temperature has dropped and so have many of the leaves. Halloween is just around the corner and so is our first snow.

I have the Christmas bug early this year and you will see a lot more Christmas cards from me over the next weeks. This card is made with a friendly Magnolia snowman. I followed the Mojo Monday sketch for my inspiration.

New Stampscapes Scenes

I attended a Stampscapes class last weekend and we made some great cards. I want to show you two of the cards we made because the techniques are so cool!

For the first card we stamped our images to make a scene and then tapped on Lake Mist and Pebble Adirondack inks with a Color Box blending stylus. This technique made a very nice dusky evening scene. I added white highlights and Stickles to simulate a little bit of star sparkle. I think it turned out pretty well for a beginner.

One of the amazing things about Stampscapes is that you can have 5 designers in a room using the exact same stamps and all the cards will turn out completely different. For this reason I am going to enter this card into a couple of challenges. Our teacher Leslie, from Crafty Capers in Nanaimo gave us our inspiration, but all the cards turned out different according to the ability and personality of each of the designers.

Stamps: Lakeside Cove 48E stamped twice, Bare Trees 269G

Paper: White card stock, Glossy Black and misc dp

Markers/Inks: Adirondack Pebble and Lake Mist

Embellishments: Stickles, Inkssentials Opac White pen

One of the other cards we made was a cute little ornament shaped card. We stamped on black glossy card stock with white pigment ink to achieve the effect.

Well, those of you who have Stampscapes stamps and don't know what to do with them, I encourage you to pull them out and play. It is the best way to learn and you will turn out something amazing that needs to be shared with your blog friends.

There aren't too many challenges out there for this type of card, but I managed a few:

A Cheerful Heart is Good Medicine

The new Paper Cutz challenge this week is In The Pink. Make your card or project this week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I think almost every family has been touched by cancer in one way or another. In my family, my husband's mother had breast cancer back in the 1960's, had surgery and lived to the age of 92! Unfortunately, his sister was not as fortunate. She battled breast cancer through ten years and several surgeries. Just two Septembers ago she lost that battle. Now all the women on his side of the family have to consider whether they are next.

So, my card is in honor of my sweet, sweet sister-in-law, Barb. Barb fought her battle with grace and beauty and was an example to her whole family. She was a Christian so we know she is with the Lord, but we all still miss her terribly.

I followed the Mojo Monday sketch for this card. This brand new Digital Delights image works well with the Our Daily Bread Designs Proverbs stamp.

Critter Sketch Challenge #87 is to make a card or project with

Green, Pink and Black.

I made my card with a really cute image from Digital Delights - Augustus the Dragon. The name Augustus suggests that the dragon might be male, but I think SHE looks great with pink spots! I used the Spellbinders Fancy Tags die to add some dimension around her head. I think it adds to her regal nature.
