Back to School with Hooty the Owl

This week at Digital Delights the challenge is
"Primary Colors".

My Primary Colors project this week is a Post It Note holder for my daughter who is taking a couple of classes this term at the local College.  She will need to take lots of notes and mark pages hence the type of notes I included in the holder.  It is just the right size to fit in her purse or book bag.  There is a great tutorial over at SCS for the traditional Post It Note holder.

Project Recipe:
Markers: Copics - E17, 18, 35, YG63, 97, W3, 5, G14, 17, Distress Faded Jeans
Embellishments: Recollections gems, Post It notes, Wild Orchard flowers and leaves

Christmas Bag of Goodies

With all the great Christmas oriented challenges running this month I thought I would get started on little bags for the Old English toffee that I make and give away during the holiday season.  Included with the bag is a pull-out tag wishing the recipient a "cool" holiday season.

The bag and tag were cut using my Cricut Expressions Plantin SchoolBook cartridge.

I used one of the new 3D Decoupage images from Digital Delights - Candy Cane Jingles. All you have to do is print the sheet and then cut out all the pieces.  I used Laila's general purpose silicone to attach my pieces one on top of the other until all the layers glued.  The sentiment is from the Christmas Sentiment Set.

Project Recipe:
Stamps: Candy Cane Jingles, Christmas Sentiment set
Paper: Bazzill, dp is from an old Michael's paper pack
Markers: Distress Faded Jeans, I added a little Copic R20 to the cheeks
Embellishments: Recollections bling, Cricut Plantin SchoolBook cartridge, craft ribbon

There are some really fun challenges out there and I am entering these:

Have a great day!

Sweet Berry Picking

At this time of year, you can go to any country corner and find blackberries growing in abundance.  This sweet little image from The Paper Shelter kind of reminds me of the late summer days with my kids picking berries.  Now of course, it is the grand kids who go out with grandma.  When we return from our adventures we make berry pie (with any that are left from all the munching).

Card Recipe:
Stamps: The Paper Shelter Let's Make a Picnic
Paper: SU White, The Paper Shelter Spring Swing
Markers: Copics - E01, 02, E15, 17, B00, 01, 02, RV21, 23, 29, Y02, 08, C5, G17, Distress Spun Sugar
Embellishments: Recollections bling, MS border punch, Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations, SU pearls, Wild Orchard flower and ribbon, Recollections brads, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Spellbinders Grand Scalloped Circles, Label Four and Labels Six

Crafty Ribbons New Challenge Blog and DT Call

Crafty Ribbons is one of the generous sponsors of Digital Delights for which I am privileged to be part of the Challenge DT.  Crafty Ribbons is starting a new challenge blog and have a DT call going.  The new challenge blog will kick-off their first challenge on 1st of September 2011.

If you are interested in becoming part of a new design team, hop over to the challenge blog and check out all the details.

Of course, I am interested of being part of another team, so I am displaying five of my favorite projects here as part of the DT call instructions.

I love learning new things and one of the things I learnt this year is to make drawer boxes.  The first one I made and posted was also highlighted on the Our Daily Bread Designs blog.  The full post is here.

The theme of my blog is passions.  One of the things I am most passionate about is my family.  I like to make cards and projects that are for or about my family.  For example, Edwin, from the Magnolia character suite looks a lot like my youngest son.  In this post, I colored him to look like my Phillip and will be sending the card to his new bride welcoming her to the family.

Another one of my passions is helping others learn something new.  I started making my own flowers using dies and punches and made up a tutorial so that others could try making their own flowers.

Okay, so who can resist a puppy?  This is one of my more CAS oriented cards.  CAS was the only type of card I made before I started blogging and entering challenges.  All the challenges have certainly improved my technique and style.

This next project highlights a number of other passions for me.  First, I was fortunate enough to become part of the Digital Delights family in June.  The first blog hop I participated in was around the time of July 1st which of course is the US celebration of independence.  As an American, I was pleased to make a patriotic looking card with a DD character for the hop.

Applying for a DT position is a little like applying for a job.  It is important to show what you can do without being too egotistical.  I hope I have been able to show a little about my personality and my crafting style.

I am looking forward to the possibility of becoming part of the Crafty Ribbons family.
Thanks for stopping by.

Bee Mine with Digital Delights

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges for
"Things with Wings".

Today I am using Bumble Bee Larry and the wonderful companion papers, Busy Bee. Larry is just toooo cute dressed up as a Bumble Bee.  I added additional sticker bees so that he wouldn't be lonely.  His wings are sparkly because I added Gold and Frosted Lace Stickles.

I made the flowers using the same card stock and my tutorial here.  I couldn't help but add a little greenery with a MS Sprig punch. The sentiment is from Digital Delights Tickets Sentiment set.

Our wonderful sponsor this week is:

Does This Bathing Suit Make Me Look Fat?

This funny little image is from Crissy Armstrong - Beach Baby Jayme. I decided to go simple with this one, mostly because I wanted to use my new embossing folder and it didn't seem to need much more.

Beach Baby Jayme just speaks to my awareness that not all bathing suits look good on my body.  Of course, this whole topic will get me on my soap box about how we women (in general) spend too much time worrying about how we look and not enough time appreciating what we have been given to work with.  I'll step down now. lol!

I also tried photographing this one outside in the bright sunlight and I think it turned out better than an inside shot.
Card Recipe:
Stamps: Crissy's Beach Baby Jayme, SU Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: SU Melon Mambo, Cosmo Cricket DeLovely
Markers: Copics - RV29, Y06, YR07, B05, E15, YG21, 23, 25
Embellishments: Ribbon, Cuttlebug embossing folder

Challenges for this card:

That's all for today.  I'll be back on Thursday with a Digital Delights creation.

Thanks for the great food!

Well my card today is a thank you to the caterer for the great brunch served at my son's wedding on Saturday morning.  I won the last challenge over at The Paper Shelter and got one free image.  I actually ended up buying quite a few besides getting my freebie.  Here is one of their really cute images and it is just perfect for this card.

Don't you think this is the perfect image to say thanks for the great food?  The wedding was early in the morning (to beat the heat) and we served brunch with scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes and everything that goes with that type of wonderful meal.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Trattoria Chef from The Paper Shelter, SU Thank You
Paper: Trattoria Chef paper pack from The Paper Shelter, Very Vanilla, Little Boy (the brown bit)
Markers: Copics - R20, Y00, E00,01,02, R39, E35, 37, 29, C1, 3, W05, Distress Tea Dye
Embellishment: Offray ribbon, Prima pearls, Spellbinders Scalloped Oval die and one made for JustRite

We had a very sunny and beautiful day on the beach.  The bride and groom wanted a simple ceremony in the sand with some of our family and their friends.  It was wonderful!

These are just two of my quick pictures.  The photographer's pics will be much better.

Challenges for this card:
Thanks for stopping by and have a great Monday!

She's Growing Up!

This really cute image from Squigglefly caught my eye a while back. I printed her out and colored her with Copics and then set her aside to work on other projects.  She has been staring at me asking to be made up into a card and I finally consented.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Squigglefly All Dressed Up, Digital Delights Tickets Sentiments
Paper: My Minds Eye - Hazel, SU White
Markers: Copics
Embellishments: Prima pearls, doily, Prima flowers, MS Sprig punch, Spellbinders Creative Book Pages (yes, I finally got that Grand Caliber!!)

This image makes me think of my 3 year old daughter when she got into my closet so many years ago.  She is 26 now and would be mortified to know that I blogged about her!  She had on my work pumps, several strings of necklaces, and my red lipstick all over her face.  I had to walk away into the bathroom so that she didn't see the tears of laughter running down my face.

Here are the challenges that this card is suitable for:

From Our Gnome to Yours!

One of the great things that Digital Delights does is give away FREE (or almost free!) images on Friday's. Over the month of June I collected these great images: Mr. Gnome's House, Mr. Gnome's Sentiment, Toadstool Set, and Mr. Gnome.  I really wanted to make a scene so I used a side stair step card as the platform for the card.

I added paper from My Minds Eye and tree branches from my Cricut Serenade collection.  If you need help making a stair step card there is a tutorial over at Split Coast Stampers.

Card Recipe:
Paper: Old Olive, My Minds Eye Stella and Rosa Hazel
Markers: Copics - R37, R39, R46, W1, 3, 5, Y02, Y93, 95, 97, E15, 17, 18, E01, E02, R20, B02, Distress Ink
Embellishments: Cricut branches from Serenade, Stickles

Let's Play

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges for
"Stitching Real or Faux".

This week we are using the new release images for Fall in our DT creations.  I made a Tri-Shutter Card using the Fall Kids, Fall Sentiments and the Simply Fall Digial Papers.

I must say that raking leaves is not one of my favorite chores.  Although, I do enjoy playing with the pile once it is made, especially if a grandchild is near by and we can take turns jumping in the pile and making a mess.

To make a Tri-Shutter card you start with a 5 1/2 by 12 inch piece of cardstock. Score at 2, 4, 8, and 10 inches across horizontally.  Now turn the paper vertically and cut between the 2 and 10 inch score lines 1 1/2 inches in from the edge.  Turn the paper around and do that step again.  You now have the base you need to begin designing your tri-shutter card.  Split Coast Stampers has a nice tutorial you can follow here.

Our wonderful sponsor this week is:

And the prize is a $20 Gift Certificate to spend in the store.

Card Recipe:
DD Stamps: Fall Kids, Fall Sentiments
CS and Papers: Simply Fall Digital Papers, SU Soft Suede
Markers: Copics - YR02, YR04, YR07, E35, YG63, YG67, W1, W3, W5, B32, B34, B37, R20, E13, E15, E17, E35, E39, E57, Y02
Access. and Embellishments: Spellbinders Label Four, Prima Pearls, Oak Leaf punch, Lace
Special Techniques: Tri-Fold Card, Faux Stitching (the kids clothes have visible stitching)

This is what the card looks like fully opened up. There is lots of room for special embellishments and you can leave a space to write something to the card recipient.

Challenges for this week:
Be sure and take a look at what the wonderful Design Team has come up with for your inspiration.  I hope you join us this week at Delightful Challenges and I look forward to visiting your blogs to see your fabulous creations.

Have a great day!

Got My Wedding Mojo

My youngest son is getting married this Saturday so of course I had to make a card for the gift.  I wasn't sure just what type of a design that I wanted to do so I followed this weeks Mojo Monday design as a guide.

I was thinking about all the list of things we made to do and the bride's lovely gown when I chose the papers and the image for the design.  The bride is wearing her mother's gown with slight alterations and an added pink ribbon with training tails.  This Stampin' Up image is perfect!  The paper is from My Minds Eye Stella and Rose collection.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: SU Blissful bride
Paper: My Minds Eye Stella and Rose, SU Very Vanilla
Markers: Copics - RV21
Embellishments: Prima pearls, Spellbinders Nested Lacy Pennants, Large Circle and Scalloped Circle

Naturally, I have to enter challenges:
That's all for today.  I have lot's of last minute details to see to.

Is it Christmas Yet?

Hi all! I have another Christmas card and new technique to show you.  I made a window card using a Flowersoft topper. I found a really good tutorial for the window card here at Split Coast Stampers.  I even decorated the inside of the card!!

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Flowersoft Seasons Greetings digital download
Paper: Bazzill, the dp paper was in my scrap pile, but I think it is SU Christmas paperpack from last year.
Embellishments: Flowersoft, SU pearls, Offray ribbon, Spellbinders dies, Flower punch and brad (inside card)

I think there might be a few Christmas challenges left for this card:

Have a great day!
