Wedding Anniversary Pearls and Swirls Challenge

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges
for Swirls and Pearls challenge!

Well, I tried to make this the pearliest, swirlest card I could possibly make.  My wedding anniversary was earlier in September so I thought I would work with that theme and Digital Delights has a great looking wedding couple for my card.

There is a little bit of everything on this card.  I was saving the Prima pearl and gem flourish for just the right card and this is it.  I cut out different sections of the whole to place around my card.  I also embossed one of my pink papers with a CuttleBug embossing folder and then gently applied a little Copic color to the raised surface.  When I first looked at it the pink color was too bright, but as the alcohol based ink soaked into the paper the effect turn nicely subtle.

Card Recipe:
DD Stamps: Bride and Groom, Wedding & Anniversary Sentiments
CS and Papers: My Minds Eye Stella Rose, SU Regal Rose
Markers: Copics – C1, C3, C5, E01. 02, RV00, 02, 04, G07
Access. and Embellishments: Wild Orchard ribbon,  Cuttlebug embossing folder, Spellbinder  Label Four and Fleur De Lis Accents, flat lace, Wild Orchard lace, Prema Pearls, "Prema Say It With Chrystals"
Coloring Medium: Alcohol Inks, Distress Spun Sugar

Be sure and take a look at what the wonderful Design Team has come up with for your inspiration.

Edwin's on the Tennis Team!

Happy Edwin just got on the Tennis Team at school and can't wait to play another game.  Well, that's what my imagination says anyway.  I do remember playing tennis in school and I even had a boyfriend who lettered in tennis. Of course, I got to wear his sweater for a while.

I used papers from the Sassafras Sunshine Broadcast collection.  I didn't have the perfect ribbon to use so I colored a white ribbon from Wild Orchard with my Distress Weathered Wood.  The Distress ink was also used to color the edges of all the distressed papers.

Card Recipe
Stamps: Magnolia Edwin Playing Tennis
Paper: Sassafras Sunshine Broadcast, Very Vanilla
Makers and Ink: Copics, Distress Weathered Wood
Embellishments: Spellbinders Fleur De Lis, Basic Grey brad, Wild Orchard ribbon, the last bit of some lace I bought at Stamprs in Victoria, BC

This card will be entered into the following challenges:

Happy Fall Y'all

Join us this week at Delightful Challenges
for Happy Fall Ya'll Challenge!

I just love the Fall Accessories set from Digital Delights which includes this great fence with sunflowers.  I am partial to sunflowers having grown them in my youth and as an adult.  They are big and bright and have the added benefit of the seeds.

I thought it would be fun to do a window card so that we could peek through the grass to see the hidden treasure of sunflowers.

I punched out EK Success flowers in different designer papers and then added gems and pearls in the center to glue over the tulips in this grass die from Memory Box.

Card Recipe:
DD Stamps: Fall Accessories
CS and Papers: SU Soft Suede, SU Designer Pack, craft card stock
Markers: Copics – E15, 17, 18, Y06, YR04, 14, B000, C01, G09, 14, W1, 3
Access. and Embellishments: Cousin Charm, Sunflowers from Michael's, Hemp, Spellbinders Fancy Tags, Memory Box Spring Border Die, Hero Hues Lace, Leaves ribbon, EK Success flower punch and Marvy leaf punch, Sizzix Grass Die, gems, Prima Pearls, Apple Corner Punch
Coloring Medium: Alcohol Inks
Special Techniques: Window Card

On the inside I used lace and a special leaf ribbon to separate my picture window from the sentiment at the bottom.  The metal flower charm is held in place by hemp that I square knotted and ended with a bow under the flower sticker.

Be sure and take a look at what the wonderful Design Team has come up with for your inspiration.

King Over All The Earth!

I am continuing my Stampscapes pilgrimage with some new stamps that I picked up last weekend from Crafty Capers in Nanaimo. If you have seen any of my other Stampscapes posts you know that I am new to SC and I have a special bent to make up the images into fancy cards using all the current techniques and embellishments.

I created a window style card with the Stampscape image on the inside of the card.  This one was tough because I had to cut using a craft knife between the trees so that we can see the image. I also finished it off with a verse from ODBD and a fawn from my Cricut Wildlife cartridge.

I am using the glossy paper and Adirondack inks like all the blogs suggest.  I also added Copics in a few places (trees) and Distress green Forest Moss (it's the darkest I have).  I am still getting used to the fact that all the ink fades over night.  When I first finished the coloring it was really dark and I thought I might have botched it, but in the morning it was quite faded and I had to add more color.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: ODBD Scripture Collection 3, A Stamp in the Hand (hills), Art Impressions (grass), Autumn Brook 212G, Tree Duo 085A, Duck Trio 023A, Tree Trunk Trio 088F
Paper: Early Espresso, Ruby Red, Basic Grey Sweet Threads
Markers and Ink: Distress Forest Moss, Adirondack Meadow, Lettuce, Denim, Stream, Butterscotch, Cloud Blue, Sailboat Blue
Embellishments: Prima pearls, Spellbinders Label One, Leaf ribbon, Leaf punch, Wildlife Cricut cartridge

Sweet Home Waters

I have another Stampscapes card today. I am really trying to figure out how to use the Color Box foam daubers and the Adirondack inks.  It is tricky to get the color just where I want it and avoid the areas where I don't want it.

I spent some time in the woods this past weekend in a cabin near an ocean bay and was impressed with the vast color scheme showing off the trees, water and mountains.  I looked carefully at how the light danced on the water and amazingly left a wispy gap between the mountains.  Now I need to try to mimic what I saw in my scapes.  I still have a lot of practicing to do!!

The other thing I want to work on is elevating the stampscaped image to that of other images we use in our card designs.  From what I have found on the web, most card makers just frame the finished image and let it go at that.  I can understand this technique because we spend so much time on the image to get it just right.  Anyway, I am thinking that sometime in the future I might like to run a challenge blog for this type of project.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Old Mill 063G, Rocky Peaks 188F
Paper: Old Olive, Kaiser Craft Punches Collection, Stock green
Ink: Adirondack Cloudy Blue, Sail Boat Blue, Denim, Butterscotch, Slate, Lettuce, Meadow, Brilliance Moonlight White and Distress Tea Dye
Embellishments: Spellbinders Lacy Circles, Lace, Wild Orchard flowers and leaves, Corner piece from Wild Orchard

Let Freedom Ring!

I was away this weekend celebrating my 34th wedding anniversary and did not have any time to surf, post or make cards.  Well, I confess, I did some coloring for upcoming projects.  When I got home late Sunday, I was surfing and catching up on comments when I found this amazing badge made by Cheryl Gambler from See It, Snap It, Scrap It.

Cheryl graciously allowed me to post it on my sidebar, but I wanted you all to know where it came from.  Cheryl says she made it using Keystone Scraps software with the September 11th Memorial Kit freebe.

Well, after we unpacked and settled in for the night I watched some of the coverage and documentaries about 911 and was immediately whisked back to that terrible day.  It is still hard to believe even after 10 years.

Hop over to See It, Snap It, Scrap It and check out this great badge and its creator!

Austin's Christmas Story

My newest grandson, Austin just had his first birthday celebration.  Austin is a unique little fellow in that he loves to sit quietly in a lap and look at books.  For a 12 month old this is fairly remarkable. OK I will admit that I am a doting grandma. I wrote a story and made Austin a book about Christmas with lots of pictures for him to enjoy.

I used all Digital Delights images to tell my story - What is Christmas?  Digital Delights has so many wonderful images it was easy to pick out the ones I needed.  All the image names below are linked to their store location in case you want to make your own story.  This is a long post with lots of pics so you might want to get a new cup of coffee.....

This story is dedicated to Austin Jason Dawes.

Candy Cane Jingles

Smiley Tree

Tangled Lights Reindeer

Sled and Bear from the Just Chillin Set

Caroling Penny

Santa Bryce

Wasn't sure what to put here so made my own.
After I finished this I thought I should have used  "Unto Him a Child is born" sentiment.

Singing Angel from Musical Angels

Mary from A Child is Born Nativity Set

Joseph from A Child is Born Nativity Set

Barn, Camel and Sheep from A Child is Born Nativity Set

Barn and Baby Jesus from A Child is Born Nativity Set

Project Recipe:
Stamps: Digital Delights images in order of appearance - Candy Cane Jingles, Smiley Tree, Tangled Lights Reindeer, Just Chillin Set, Caroling Penny, Santa Bryce, Singing Angel, A Child is Born Nativity Set
Paper: Bazzill, Strathmore Calligraphy papers
Inks: Distress Pine Needles
Markers: Lots of Copics - Mary - E25, 27, E01, 02, BV00, 02, B21, 23, Joseph - E15, 17, 18, R20, E01, 02, W1, 3, 5, TG63, 67, E59, Tree - G07, 14, 28, Y08, R20, R29, E25, 59, Jingles - C1, 3, 5, 7, R29, G17, B00, Y02, 06, 08.  All these colors were repeated for the other characters.
Embellishments: Spellbinders Grand Scalloped Squares, Fleur de Lis Squares, Gold and Frosted Lace Stickles, Ribbon, Twine for holding it all together

I had some challenges creating this book that I would like to share with you all.  First, I wanted the book to be durable for a little boy to toss around so I laminated the pages.  This of course challenged my creativity because I could only fit so many layers through the laminating machine.  I compromised and used just three layers for the story portion. I also couldn't add any ribbons, bows, flowers or pearls.  Most of you know what a challenge that is. Anyway, I think it turned out ok and I know that Austin will learn about our wonderful God by reading this story over and over as he grows up.

I can't help but enter this project into a few challenges:

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my book for Austin.

My First Stampscapes Card

Stampscapes images have attracted me for some time.  I see beautiful creations made with these stamps out in blog land and on Split Coast Stampers.  However, I had decided not to buy any of them because I knew that if I did I would need to collect more than a few.  Well, my new friend, Sheree from Vancouver Island Craft Junkie picked my name in her recent give away and I won a sheet of Stampscapes rubber.  It included FIVE stamps!

All I had to do was get them backed with foam and watch a few uTube videos to find out what to do with them. Well, the first thing I learned was that it is best to use Adirondack inks.  I mostly use Memento and Copics so of course I had to run out to the store and find them. I ended up at the same place that Sheree shops in Nanaimo - Crafty Capers. Victoria is very helpful and has a good supply of Stampscapes supplies.  While I was shopping I ran into one of the Stampscapes instructors and she pointed out a few stamps that I needed to add to my collection.  Just as I thought!!!

Well here goes.....

I tried a few scenes before I settled on this one.  There is a lot to learn about positioning the images and daubing the inks in just the right place.  I also used grey Copics on the mountains and a bit of Sharpie white.  Not bad for my first try!

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Pine Rocks 195G, Lakeside Cove Large 049G, Rocky Peaks 188E, Water Pattern Small 231C, Canoe 010A
Paper: Old Olive, stash black
Markers and Inks: Adirondack Meadow, Lettuce,Sail Boat Blue,Butterscotch, Denim,Cloudy Blue, Copics C1, C3. C8
Embellishments: Stampin Up Twine and Button

I found a few challenges for this card:

Well, if you have any tips for using Stampscapes stamps I would love to hear about them.  Thanks for stopping by.
